Preparing for a move-out inspection can be extremely taxing, both
physically and mentally. There is a lot of pressure to present your house as
spotless as it can be, especially when it's time to get the deposit back. Here
are some tips and tricks that you can use while cleaning your house, so as to
make it spick and span.
Gather All the Required Supplies
Before you start off on cleaning your house, keep all the required
cleaning items handy, so that you won't have to run to the store midway through
your chores. These supplies may include items like a vacuum cleaner, mops,
buckets, sponges, cleaning liquids, gloves, goggles, and so on.
Remove All Staples, Nails, and Stickers
Preliminary to your cleaning process, you need to remove any nails,
staples, or stickers that you might have put up on the walls. Make sure that
you do this smartly, or you could end up damaging the paint coating on your
walls. Use some paint thinner sparingly for the stickers if you have to. Once
you've completely stripped everything off of the walls, you can go about
cleaning them without worry.
Plan Your Work and Start Cleaning the Interiors
Before you begin, take a look around and identify the areas you need to
tackle first. The kitchen and bathroom are usually the dirtiest, so it's better
to start off with those. An all-purpose cleaner works well if you want to
remove caked-up dirt from your sink or bathtub. If the stain refuses to budge,
try using a stronger bleach-based cleaner. In order to get rid of those sticky,
aerated oil stains, try cleaning it with mineral oil and wiping it with paper
towels. In all probability, your walls might also be very dirty. For this, you
can use a TSP substitute. A TSP substitute is used to prep your walls for
painting, but it also does a pretty good job of cleaning it.
Sweep and Clean the Exterior
After you've cleaned the interior, it's time to move on to the exterior.
Be sure to sweep and mop the balcony if you have one. You will probably have to
sweep away all the dry leaves and dust from outside your house. Make it
presentable, and check to see if all the lights outside are working.
Make The Necessary Repairs
In most cases, you will have to make a few repairs, such as for a broken
curtain blind or some damage to the walls caused by nails. Make sure that these
minor repairs are taken care of before the inspection.
